Frequently asked questions
What is blended learning?
Blended learning is a flexible training format that combines online learning with face to face practical training.
For first aid courses, this means learners complete part of the course online in their own time, followed by a shorter in person practical and assessment session with one of our trainers.
How blended learning works
Blended learning courses typically include:
Online e-Learning, completed in advance
This covers key theory, background knowledge, and underpinning principles. The e Learning must be completed in full before attending the practical session.
Practical classroom training and assessment
This focuses on hands on skills such as CPR, use of a defibrillator, casualty assessment, and realistic scenarios. Practical competence is assessed in person, in line with awarding organisation requirements.
Important requirements
For blended learning first aid courses:
• Completion of the e-Learning is mandatory
• Learners who have not completed the required e-Learning will not be permitted to continue with the practical training or assessment
• Certificates can only be issued once both elements have been successfully completed
Why blended learning is popular
Blended learning offers:
• Greater flexibility, particularly for busy workplaces
• Reduced time away from work
• The same regulated qualification as a full classroom course
Our approach
We deliver blended learning first aid courses in line with Qualsafe Awards qualification specifications, ensuring standards are maintained and learning outcomes are fully met.
Blended learning courses are available through centre based delivery and in company training.
If you are unsure whether blended learning is suitable for your workplace or learners, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
What are the benefits of blended learning for me?
Benefits of blended learning include:
• Learning the theory at your own pace in a comfortable setting
• Using classroom time to focus on practical skills, scenarios, and assessment
• Reducing time away from work or other commitments
• Gaining the same nationally recognised qualification as traditional classroom training
Blended learning is a flexible and convenient option, but it is not the only way to train. If you prefer to complete the entire course face to face, you can book one of our traditional classroom based first aid courses instead.
If you would like help choosing the right option for you or your organisation, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.

• First Aid at Work
• First Aid at Work Requalification
• Paediatric First Aid
Blended learning combines mandatory online e-Learning with a shorter face to face practical and assessment session, delivered in line with awarding organisation requirements.

Where courses are delivered
Blended and classroom courses are available through centre based delivery and in company training.
If you are unsure which delivery format is best for your learners or workplace, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
How much time is spend online and in the classroom?
The time spent online and in the classroom depends on the specific blended learning course.
As a guide, our courses are structured as follows:
Emergency First Aid at Work
Around 2 hours of online e-Learning, followed by approximately 4 hours of classroom based practical training and assessment.
First Aid at Work
Around 6 hours of online e-Learning, followed by two classroom days of practical training and assessment.
First Aid at Work Requalification
Around 6 hours of online e-Learning, followed by one classroom day of practical training and assessment.
Paediatric First Aid
Around 6 hours of online e-Learning, followed by one classroom day of practical training and assessment.
Important to note
• The online e Learning must be completed in full before attending the classroom session
• Learners who have not completed the required e-Learning cannot continue with the practical training or assessment
• Exact timings will always be confirmed in your joining instructions
Blended learning leads to the same regulated qualification as a fully face to face course, with the same assessment standards and certification.
What is the e-learning like?
The online e-Learning is high quality, engaging, and designed to be easy to follow, even if you are new to first aid.
It includes:
• Short, clear videos created by clinical experts
• Interactive activities to reinforce learning
• Quizzes and knowledge checks to help you confirm your understanding
The e-Learning is designed to:
• Build core knowledge at your own pace
• Prepare you fully for the practical classroom training
• Ensure everyone arrives with the same underpinning understanding
You can complete the e-Learning in your own time, from home or work, using a computer or tablet.
Once completed, the classroom session focuses on hands on skills, realistic scenarios, and assessment, rather than theory delivery.

What equipment will I need for the e-learning?
To complete the online e-Learning, you will need:
• Access to a computer, laptop, or tablet
• A reliable internet connection
A larger screen is recommended, as it makes it easier to view videos, read content, and complete interactive activities comfortably.
The e-Learning can be completed at home or at work, and you can usually pause and return to it as needed until it is finished.
Technical support
If you experience any technical issues while accessing or completing the e-Learning, support is available through the Qualsafe Awards learner portal:

If problems persist or you are unsure how to access your course, please contact us as soon as possible so we can help you get set up in good time before your classroom training.
Will I get the same certificate as a face to face course?
Yes. Blended learning courses lead to the exact same certificate as fully face to face courses.
Where the course leads to a regulated qualification, the certificate:
• Is awarded by Qualsafe Awards
• Is regulated by Ofqual
• Is nationally recognised and accepted by employers and regulators
The certificate does not state how the course was delivered. There is no distinction between blended learning and classroom only delivery.
Key point
Blended learning simply changes how the learning is delivered, not the standard of assessment or the qualification achieved. All learners must meet the same assessment requirements to achieve certification.
This applies to both centre based courses and in company training.
If you have any questions about delivery methods or certification, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
