Course Description
Develop the practical skills needed to respond to cardiac arrest, an unresponsive casualty, choking and anaphylaxis involving adults, children and infants in a clinical practice environment. This course leads to the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis for Adults, Children and Infants in Clinical Practice (RQF). It is a nationally recognised qualification regulated by Ofqual. You will learn how to: • assess an emergency and summon appropriate assistance • perform CPR on adults, children and infants • use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely • respond to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally • recognise and manage suspected anaphylaxis • use an adrenaline auto injector training device • respond to choking in adults, children and infants • consider clinical protocols, scope of practice and accurate event reporting Where relevant to the learner's role and within their scope of practice, training and assessment can include a simulated demonstration of drawing up the appropriate dose of adrenaline 1:1000 for intramuscular injection and the safe disposal of sharps. Who is it for? This qualification is intended for anyone working in a clinical practice environment, including clinical, administrative and support staff. Relevant settings can include GP and primary care services, dental practices, pharmacies, nursing and care homes, aesthetics clinics, physiotherapy, podiatry, mental health services, addiction services, community health centres, sexual health services and sports medicine. Course and qualification information • 4.5 guided learning hours • approximately 1 additional hour of directed preparation or pre course reading • seven practical assessments completed throughout the course • qualification valid for 1 year • no previous first aid qualification required • learners must be at least 14 years old • learners must be able to perform practical activities at floor level Please wear suitable clothing and flat footwear for practical work. This qualification may form only part of the training required for a particular role or organisation. Employers and clinical governance leads remain responsible for identifying training requirements and ensuring that staff work within their professional scope of practice. ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION • Learners must attend the entire course, including every required session. • Late arrival, early departure or absence may prevent a learner from completing the course or receiving certification and may result in exclusion without a refund, subject to the full terms and conditions. • First aid courses include practical activities that may require learners to kneel or lie on the floor. Suitable clothing and flat footwear should be worn. • Learners undertaking regulated qualifications must meet the stated entry requirements and demonstrate the required knowledge and practical competence. • Valid photographic identification must be presented where required for a regulated qualification. ACCESSIBILITY AND REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS Please contact DTMK as early as possible if an injury, health condition, disability, learning need, literacy or language need, or another barrier may affect participation or assessment. We will consider reasonable-adjustment requests in confidence and in accordance with the relevant qualification and awarding-organisation requirements. Requests made shortly before a course will still be considered, although it may not always be possible to put every adjustment in place at short notice. CANCELLATIONS AND TRANSFERS Cancellation and transfer requests must be made in writing and will be handled in accordance with the full terms and conditions linked above. CERTIFICATION • Qualification certificates are issued only after all required training and assessments have been completed successfully. • Attendance certificates for non-regulated courses are issued only where this is stated in the relevant course description. • Replacement certificates may incur an administration or awarding-organisation fee.
