The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid (+F) (RQF) has been specifically designed as a bolt-on module to accompany a valid First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification. It cannot be taken as a stand-alone course. This additional training is ideal for those who work, or intend to work, in forestry, agriculture or remote environments, such as tree surgeons, farmers and outdoor workers.
This is a very practical and hands-on course, designed to build confidence in managing serious incidents in challenging environments.
Successful candidates will:

Practise the management of incidents in forestry, agricultural and remote settings

Demonstrate the safe, prompt and effective treatment of serious conditions such as catastrophic bleeding, crush injuries, hypothermia and Lyme disease

Gain an understanding of the specific hazards and risks faced by those working in forestry and similar industries
This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

This QA qualification is:

Designed to be taken in addition to a valid FAW or EFAW qualification, enhancing knowledge and skills to meet the specialist needs of the forestry and agriculture sectors

Intended to equip learners with both the understanding and the practical competence required to respond effectively to high-risk incidents in outdoor and remote environments
By the end of the course, learners will have the confidence and ability to deliver essential first aid in forestry and agricultural settings, building on the foundation of their existing FAW or EFAW qualification.

Intended audience
This qualification is for people who hold or intend to complete an Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work qualification who may deal with special hazards in an emergency situation within a forestry/agricultural context.
Note: Those working in core operations on Forestry Commission land will require an appropriate and valid Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work qualification in combination with this Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid +F (RQF) qualification.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level. There are no other formal entry requirements, but we strongly recommend that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
Other course requirements
Due to the practical nature of this course, Learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g. trousers and flat footwear. Due to the practical work on this course, please check your joining instructions for further advice on what to wear.
Requalification requirements
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.

Assessment methods:

Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 3 weeks.
