Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate recognition and treatment. Combined with the ability to deliver effective basic life support and use a defibrillator, these are vital skills that can save lives in the community.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support, Automated External Defibrillation, and Management of Anaphylaxis (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for members of the public, volunteers and community groups. It is also suitable for those who wish to refresh or update their knowledge between longer first aid qualifications. This course provides the essential practical skills needed to act quickly and effectively in an adult medical emergency.

  • Safely set up and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and respond with safe, effective treatment, including the use of auto-injectors

  • Gain the confidence to provide prompt, life-saving care in emergencies involving cardiac arrest or severe allergic reaction

This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • The Resuscitation Council (UK)

  • A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care
