Course Description
This two hour Stop the Bleed workshop is designed to give people the confidence and practical skills to deal with severe and catastrophic bleeding before emergency services arrive. Uncontrolled bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable death following injury. Whether caused by a serious accident, a fall, a workplace incident, or a violent event, rapid action can make the difference between life and death. This session focuses on exactly what to do in those critical first minutes. We will look at both severe bleeding and catastrophic bleeding, helping learners understand the difference and recognise when immediate intervention is needed. The workshop is highly practical and hands on, with clear guidance on how to control bleeding using a range of methods. You will learn how to use standard first aid dressings effectively, including direct pressure and wound management. We will then progress to the use of tourniquets and wound packing techniques, explaining when they are appropriate and how to use them safely and correctly. The aim is to remove fear and uncertainty and replace it with calm, confident action. Many people have seen public access bleed kits in workplaces, public buildings, schools, transport hubs, and community spaces. This workshop is all about knowing what to do when you open one. We will explore the contents of a typical bleed kit, explain the purpose of each item, and practise using the equipment in realistic scenarios. This session is suitable for members of the public, workplaces, community groups, and anyone who wants to be better prepared for emergencies. No prior first aid experience is required. Everything is explained clearly and supported with practical demonstration and supervised practice. By the end of the workshop, learners will feel confident in recognising life threatening bleeding and taking decisive action to control it until professional help arrives.
