Blended Learning: The Smarter Way to Gain Your Paediatric First Aid Qualification

For many people working in childcare, finding time for professional development can be a real challenge. Between long days, family commitments, and the reality of running or working in a busy setting, taking two full days off for training isn’t always easy.

Often referred to by childcare professionals as “the two day course”, this qualification can now be achieved through a flexible mix of online learning and a single practical training day. The best part is that you will still gain exactly the same full, nationally recognised qualification.

How the blended course works

The online section is completed through the Qualsafe e Learning platform, which allows you to work through the theory at your own pace. You can study in short sessions, perhaps an hour in the evening, and fit it around your normal routine. Many childminders and nursery staff tell us they like being able to complete the learning gradually, without losing a full day’s income or leaving their setting short staffed.

Once you have completed the e Learning, you will join us for your Practical Day, where we will cover all of the hands on skills needed for the course. You will demonstrate your understanding and take part in realistic, engaging first aid scenarios that bring everything together.

What makes the Qualsafe e Learning platform different?

Not all online training is created equal. Some companies offer e Learning that is little more than a long document and a quick quiz at the end, but that is not how Qualsafe works.

The platform includes:

  • High quality videos that demonstrate each topic

  • Interactive activities to check your understanding

  • Engaging quizzes and games to help you remember key points

  • Real world examples that relate to your everyday work in childcare

It is designed to keep you interested and make the learning stick, whether you are studying on a laptop or a tablet. (We do think a bigger screen makes it even better.)

Support every step of the way

If you ever get stuck, you will not be left on your own. Technical support is available directly through Qualsafe, and your DTMK course trainer is always happy to answer any questions as you prepare for your practical session. We have even had learners whose first language is not English tell us how reassuring they found the platform. It is not full of complicated reading, and the videos and activities make it easy to follow.

Why nurseries and childcare settings love the blended approach

For nurseries, there is no need to release staff for two full days. That means less disruption, less cover to arrange, and less time away from the children. It is a win win for both the employee and the employer.

It is also ideal for those who do not drive, as with only one day to attend in person, getting to the venue becomes much easier. (And if you are thinking of learning to drive, we can help with that too.)

The same qualification, greater flexibility

It is worth repeating that this blended version of the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) leads to the same full qualification as the traditional two day classroom course. You will meet all EYFS and Ofsted requirements, with the added convenience of learning in a way that fits around your life.
