The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) – Blended Learning has been designed to provide the same high-quality training as the traditional classroom course, with the added benefit of flexibility. By combining online study with face-to-face training, learners can complete part of the course at a time that suits them, before attending a shorter practical session to develop hands-on skills and complete assessments.

This approach is particularly useful for employers who may struggle to release staff during the working day, and for individuals who need to fit training around other commitments.

Course structure

  • e-Learning (approx. 2 hours): Learners complete the theory element online using an industry-leading platform that includes high-quality videos, quizzes and interactive activities. This must be completed before attending the practical session.

  • Face-to-face (approx. 4 hours): Learners then attend in person to focus on the practical skills of first aid and complete the required assessments.

Successful candidates will:

  • Gain the knowledge and confidence to act as an emergency first aider in the workplace

  • Practise the safe, prompt and effective administration of first aid in a range of emergency situations

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a first aider

This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • The Resuscitation Council (UK)

  • A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care

This QA qualification is:

  • For people who deal with first aid at work, enabling them to act as emergency first aiders under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

  • Based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for the delivery of Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) courses under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

By the end of the course, learners will have developed the essential knowledge, skills and practical competence required to act effectively as an emergency first aider in the workplace.
