Every minute without CPR and defibrillation after a cardiac arrest reduces a casualty’s chance of survival by 10%. With an estimated 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests taking place in the UK each year, the ability to respond quickly and effectively can make all the difference.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed to provide members of the public, volunteers and community groups with the essential skills to save a life. It is also a useful option for individuals who wish to refresh or update their skills between longer qualifications such as Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work.

Successful candidates will:

  • Demonstrate the safe and effective administration of adult CPR

  • Safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with current best practice

  • Gain the knowledge and confidence to act quickly in life-threatening emergencies

  • Reinforce their understanding of the importance of basic life support in community and workplace settings

This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:

  • The Resuscitation Council (UK)

  • A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care

This QA qualification is:

  • Suitable for members of the public, volunteers and community groups who wish to gain life-saving skills

  • Beneficial for individuals who want to refresh or update their knowledge and skills during the period of their longer workplace qualification

  • Designed to ensure learners develop the practical competence to deliver safe, prompt and effective basic life support and defibrillation

By the end of the course, learners will have the knowledge, confidence and practical ability to provide adult basic life support and use a defibrillator effectively in an emergency.
