Every minute without CPR and defibrillation after a cardiac arrest reduces a casualty’s chance of survival by 10%. With an estimated 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occurring in the UK each year, having the skills to respond effectively is vital.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support for Adults, Children, and Infants in Clinical Practice (RQF) has been specifically developed for those who work, or are preparing to work, in healthcare and clinical practice environments. This qualification ensures learners are equipped with the essential practical competencies to deliver basic life support (BLS) and automated external defibrillation (AED) to casualties of all ages.

Successful candidates will:

• Demonstrate the safe and effective administration of CPR to adults, children, and infants in a clinical setting

• Practise the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance

• Understand the importance of adapting techniques appropriately to suit different age groups

• Gain the confidence to provide prompt and effective basic life support as part of their clinical role

This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
