Course Description

Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation (RQF) Every minute without CPR and defibrillation after a cardiac arrest reduces a casualty’s chance of survival by around 10%. With an estimated 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests taking place in the UK each year, knowing how to respond quickly and confidently can make all the difference. The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification. It provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills to save a life in an emergency. This short course is suitable for members of the public, volunteers, community groups, and anyone wishing to refresh or update their skills between longer qualifications such as Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work. What you will learn • Safe and effective administration of adult CPR • Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with current best practice • CPR and AED safety considerations • Management of an unconscious casualty • Importance of early intervention in cardiac arrest situations By the end of the course, learners will have the confidence and competence to provide basic life support and use a defibrillator safely and effectively in an emergency. Who the course is for This qualification is ideal for those with a specific interest or responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide adult basic life support and operate an AED when required. Entry requirements Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of training and able to perform practical tasks at floor level. While there are no formal entry requirements, it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent. Course requirements Due to the practical nature of this course, learners should wear comfortable clothing and flat footwear suitable for kneeling and floor-based activities. Requalification This qualification is valid for three years. Learners must retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified. This course is part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications and aligns with guidance from the Resuscitation Council UK and a panel of medical experts.
