Every minute without CPR and defibrillation after a cardiac arrest reduces a casualty’s chance of survival by 10%. Being able to deliver life-saving skills confidently to people of all ages can make a vital difference in an emergency.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation for Adults, Children, and Infants (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed to give members of the public, volunteers and community groups the confidence and skills to respond in life-threatening situations involving casualties of any age. It is also ideal for individuals who wish to refresh or update their knowledge between longer first aid qualifications such as Emergency First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid.

Successful candidates will:

Demonstrate the safe and effective administration of CPR to adults, children and infants

Safely set up and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in line with current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance

Adapt basic life support techniques appropriately for different age groups

Gain the confidence to act quickly and effectively in a variety of real-life emergency situations

Intended audience
​
This qualification is for people who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide BLS (including the use of an AED) to adults, children or infants when dealing with an emergency situation.

Entry requirements
​
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level. There are no other formal entry requirements, but we strongly recommend that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Other course requirements
​
Due to the practical nature of this course, Learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g. trousers and flat footwear.
Requalification requirements
​
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
