Day Course

The DTMK First Aid for Young People course is designed to give young people the confidence and skills to respond safely and effectively in an emergency. It provides a hands-on introduction to first aid that is ideal for those taking part in school activities, sports, youth organisations, or outdoor programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

This course builds essential life skills through practical, scenario-based learning that helps participants stay calm and take appropriate action when faced with an accident or medical emergency. It is particularly suitable for older children and teenagers who are beginning to take more responsibility during group or physical activities.

 

Learners will:

  • Understand how to assess and manage an incident safely

  • Learn how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED)

  • Recognise and treat bleeding, shock and choking

  • Respond to common injuries such as sprains, strains and minor burns

  • Develop the confidence to act quickly and appropriately in real-life situations

This course is delivered by qualified teachers and experienced first aid trainers who make learning engaging, interactive and age-appropriate. It can be tailored for schools, sports teams, cadet units or youth organisations to support wider personal development and safety awareness.

By the end of the course, learners will have the knowledge and practical competence to provide safe, prompt and effective first aid during any activity or event.

Intended audience

​

This course is designed for anyone aged 10 and above who wants to learn how to help others in an emergency. It is ideal for schools, sports teams, youth organisations and community groups that want to give young people the confidence and skills to take positive action when someone needs help. The course encourages teamwork, leadership and responsibility while introducing essential first aid knowledge in an engaging and practical way.​

Entry requirements

​

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Learners should be comfortable taking part in light practical activity, including practising some skills at floor level. The course content and teaching style are age-appropriate, making it accessible and enjoyable for young people aged 10 and above.​

​

 

Other course requirements

​

Due to the practical nature of this course, Learners should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, e.g. trousers and flat footwear.

Requalification requirements

​

This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The Learner must successfully retake the qualification on or before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.

​

Assessment methods:

• Practical assessment – 4 completed throughout the course

 

 

Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 4 weeks.
