The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) – Requalification (Blended Learning) allows existing first aiders to renew their qualification through a flexible mix of online and classroom training.
By completing the theoretical elements in advance through e-Learning, learners attend a shorter one-day face-to-face session that focuses on the essential practical skills and assessments.
This option is particularly suitable for employers who need to minimise staff absence, while ensuring that their workplace first aiders remain competent and up to date.
Course structure
-
e-Learning (approx. 6 hours): Learners complete the theory element online using an interactive e-Learning platform, featuring high-quality videos, quizzes and activities. This must be completed before attending the practical training.
-
Face-to-face (1 day – approx. 6 hours): Learners attend in person to refresh their first aid knowledge, practise the key practical skills, and complete the required assessments.

Successful candidates will:
-
Refresh their knowledge of a wide variety of workplace first aid topics
-
Practise and update the essential practical skills required of a first aider
-
Reinforce their understanding of the role and responsibilities of a workplace first aider
-
Demonstrate safe, prompt and effective administration of first aid in both minor and major workplace incidents

This qualification forms part of the QA First Aid suite of qualifications. The qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of:
-
The Resuscitation Council (UK)
-
A distinguished panel of experts in emergency medical care

This QA qualification is:
-
For existing workplace first aiders renewing their certification under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981
-
Based on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standard for the delivery of First Aid at Work (FAW) requalification courses under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981

By the end of the course, learners will have refreshed their knowledge, confidence and practical competence, enabling them to continue carrying out the role of a workplace first aider effectively.
Important information regarding expired certificates:
-
A workplace first aider ceases to be recognised as competent the moment their FAW certificate expires
-
If the certificate has expired by less than one month, learners may still attend the two-day FAW Requalification course, but they are not legally classed as a first aider in the workplace until the new certificate is issued
-
If the certificate has expired by more than one month, learners are not eligible for the two-day requalification course. In this case, the HSE advises that it may be more appropriate to complete the full three-day First Aid at Work course rather than the requalification

By the end of the course, learners will have refreshed their knowledge, skills and confidence to continue carrying out the duties of a workplace first aider effectively.

It is possible to reduce GLH when requalifying and attend a 12-hour FAW requalifying course if Learners produce their current or previous, recently expired (within one month), FAW certificate. The certificate should be in a format as accepted by the HSE. Requalification training should be delivered in no less than 12 hours (2 days) excluding breaks.
