Learners will take part in realistic practical scenarios and will use professional training equipment, including: First aid manikins for CPR and casualty care Training defibrillators (AED trainers) Additional training aids relevant to the course being delivered Practical learning Practical sessions allow learners to: Practise life saving skills in a safe, supported environment Build confidence through repetition and feedback Apply theory to realistic emergency situations. Our approach We believe that first aid training must be practical, realistic, and confidence building. Yes. We provide all of the equipment needed to complete your first aid training. For both centre based courses and in company delivery, all essential training resources are supplied. What is included? Each learner will be provided with access to professional training equipment during the course, including: First aid manikins for CPR and casualty care Training defibrillators (AED trainers) A personal training pack is also provided, which typically includes: Triangular bandages Dressings Disposable gloves Resuscitation face shields Plasters are also available where appropriate. In addition, every learner receives a first aid reference book, which is yours to keep after the course for future reference. Assessment for our first aid courses is carried out in line with Qualsafe Awards qualification specifications and is designed to confirm that learners can safely and effectively apply first aid skills in real life situations. Assessment methods vary slightly depending on the specific qualification, but typically include the following elements. Practical assessment Learners will be assessed through practical demonstration of first aid skills, which may include: Casualty assessment and scene management CPR and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) Recovery position Management of bleeding, shock, and other emergency conditions Practical assessment takes place throughout the course and during planned scenarios. Learners must demonstrate competence in line with the outcomes set out in the Qualsafe specification. Knowledge assessment Depending on the qualification, knowledge may be assessed through: Multiple choice questions, either written or spoken Questioning by the trainer assessor during the course A combination of methods, as permitted by the qualification specification All assessments are conducted in English, and test papers are provided in English only. Continuous assessment Assessment is not usually limited to a single test at the end of the course. Instead, learners are assessed continuously, allowing trainers to observe understanding, skills, and safe practice across the full duration of the training. Certification requirements To achieve certification, learners must: Attend the full course Actively participate in practical training Successfully meet all assessment criteria set by Qualsafe Awards Certification cannot be issued unless all required assessment outcomes have been met. Yes. It is possible not to pass a first aid course. All of our regulated first aid qualifications are assessed in line with Qualsafe Awards qualification specifications, and certification can only be issued if a learner meets all required assessment criteria. Why a learner may not pass A learner may not achieve the qualification if they: Do not demonstrate competence in the required practical first aid skills, such as CPR or emergency procedures Are unable to meet the knowledge assessment requirements set out in the qualification specification Do not attend the full course or miss required assessment elements Are unable to safely participate in practical activities Our approach to support Our aim is always to support learners to succeed. Trainers provide: Clear instruction and demonstration Opportunities to practise skills Feedback throughout the course to help learners improve However, trainers cannot award a pass unless the learner meets the required standard defined by Qualsafe Awards. Resits and next steps Where permitted by the qualification specification, learners may be offered the opportunity to resit or complete additional training. This will depend on the nature of the assessment outcome and must comply with awarding organisation requirements. Why standards matter First aid qualifications exist to ensure that learners are safe, competent, and confident to respond in real life emergencies. Awarding a certificate without meeting the required standard would undermine this purpose. This applies to both centre based courses and in company training. Yes. Completion of the e-Learning is mandatory before attending the classroom training. For all blended learning first aid courses, the online e-Learning must be completed in full before you can take part in the face to face practical training and assessment. Why this is required This requirement is set by the awarding organisation and ensures that: All learners arrive with the required theory knowledge Classroom time can focus on practical skills and assessment Course delivery remains compliant with Qualsafe Awards qualification specifications What happens if e-Learning is not completed? If the required e Learning has not been completed: You will not be able to continue with the classroom training or assessment Certification cannot be issued Our approach We strongly recommend completing the e Learning as soon as you receive access, rather than leaving it until the last minute. This applies to blended learning courses delivered both at our training centre and through in company delivery.
